Thanks so much for the news -- sad as it all was -- in your letter.

It was nice to hear from you. I hope the autobiography may live up to your expectations.

The letter was being offered for sale on  online by an antiquarian book dealer in October 2023.  The seller speculated that addressee may have been the American writer Josephine Herbst, and that the sad news may have referred to ongoing difficulties with her husband, novelist John Hermann. -- marxists.org
